The Portobello Artists Group exists to promote and support practising artists
based in West London, through lectures and demonstrations, idea exchanges, exhibitions and workshops. The group was founded in 1989 by painter and printmaker Ronald Best.
It is a group run by artists of diverse artistic and cultural backgrounds living in the Portobello area wishing to exhibit innovative, exciting works.
The objective of the group is to promote the visual arts within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and beyond, by mounting regular exhibitions as well as providing workshop facilities to support the arts in education and to create opportunities for individual artists.
Since the Group's foundation in 1989 Ronald Best has organized a very large number of art exhibitions and workshops, with support from the Westway Development Trust.
For many years, he was the organiser of the Notting Hill Arts Festival. A successful exhibition took place last August in the huge empty space of the old Post Office Sorting office in Westbourne Grove.
This current exhibition at the Tabernacle Art Gallery, organized by Ronald, provides an opportunity to view the quality and artistic originality that flourishes in the hidden studios of artists living in and around the Portobello, representing some of the best art produced in London today. The exhibition has the support of a large number of local shops and businesses in the area.
